A Little About Me

Yesterday I obeyed kings and bent my neck before emperors.
But today I kneel only to truth, follow only beauty, and obey only love.
— Khalil Gibran

My name is Sande & I've always been a seeker. After decades of self-inquiry and practicing yoga & meditation, I found the true meaning of Ahimsa (Sanskrit for non-harming) in my vegan transition and subsequent activism.  I’m an MSVA-Certified Vegan Lifestyle Coach & Educator, which turns out to be my soul's work.

As a vegan columnist for over five years, I've written about many aspects of Living & Being Vegan, from Vitamin B12 to How Veganism & Yoga are related.  In my new book, Living & Being Vegan, 12 Essays on the ‘Why’ & the ‘How,” I share a year’s worth of these columns filled with helpful links and tasty recipes.  My Blog page is filled with the various topics I cover about veganism and plant-based eating.

I design Sundara Yoga and Vegan-Inspired Jewelry. The word Sundara is drawn from the Sanskrit word meaning beautiful, interpreted as inner beauty flowing from grace & wisdom.  I began to express my love of yoga through jewelry design in 2010.  Sitting down in my studio to create a new piece became a form of meditation. An injury in 2011 left me unable to teach, and jewelry design became one of my full time creative activities. I studied the healing properties of gemstones and began to delve into this artistic medium as a way to stay connected to the yoga community and to my practice. As my injuries healed, I discovered a deep love of creating what I now call “Hip & Holy Bling.”

I'm a proud co-founder of the Hudson Valley Vegfest.  My talented Vegfest partner Rebecca and I worked tirelessly on the inaugural event in 2017, gathering over 90 companies and organizations to showcase the abundance and importance of the vegan life.  Speakers from around the globe informed, renowned chefs demoed, food vendors fed us incredible food, vegan musicians performed and award-winning vegan bodybuilders showed us how they became their best after adopting a plant-based diet.

Completing my Yoga Teacher Training at Satya Yoga Center in Rhinebeck, NY and my Corporate Yoga Teacher Training at the Omega Institute of Holistic Studies, YOGA remains a very special part of my life.

At Boston University I studied Psychology and Education, and I hold a B.A. in Education from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

So that's the lowdown on me, but what I really want you to know is that I’m fully committed to helping you feel your best physically & spiritually. I'll always encourage you to reach higher – to practice consistent self-care – and to move joyfully on your path. I hope we'll have the opportunity to work together soon.

And I will always invite you to Adorn Yourself….From the Inside, Out.
